Tropical Gardens Nursery stocks a large variety of palms to suit Melbourne's mixed climates.

We have 22 different varieties of palm in all size ranges from 8" pots to 400 litre bags.

Cocos Palm (Sygrus Romanzoffiana) Tall, slender growing palm, very tolerant, no prickles.

(Full Sun, Wind, Frost)

Bangalow Palm (Archontophoenix Cunninghamiana) Beautiful feature palm ideally planted in clusters to create a nice feature and protect each other.

(Full Sun, Wind, OK with Frost)

Majestic Palm (Ravenea Rivularis) Doesnt like the wind but is a beautiful broad growing solid palm.

(Full Sun, Low Winds, Low Frosts)

Chinese Windmill Palm (Trachycarpus Fortunei) Frost and snow tolerant the chinese windmill is ideal for cold temperate climates, no prickles make it ideal around kids.

Dwarf Date Palm (Phoenix Roebelleni) Beautiful slow growing bush palm, ideal for both indoor and outdoor. Possibly one of the most versatile palms.

Chinese Fan Palm (Livistonia Chinensis) Has quite a large fan branch as the name would suggest, once settled has a moderate rate of growth and is quite drought tolerant.

Cotton Palm (Washingtonia Robusta) A commonly used centrepiece, very tolerant and a quick grower, once its established it is very hardy.

Canary Island Date Palm (Phoenix Canariensis) The most popular when it comes to centre pieces and specimen palms. The canaries trunk can eventually be nearly 1 metre through with fronds growing up to 4 metres long.

Kentia Palm (Howea Forsteriana) The Kentia is on of the best palm specimens widely used for indoor and outdoor (in warmer areas). It does not tolerate extreme cold or dry heat.

Lady Palm (Rhapis Excelsa) The lady palm is a beautiful specimen commonly used in plant hire, cold tolerant but cant stand the sun, fine in dull positions. A great indoor palm almost fake looking with its glossy leaves of upto 3 metres.

Parlour Palm (Chameadorea Elegans) An ideal palm for indoor use, no prickles, soft lush foliage, bushy to about 1.5m high and 1m wide.

Alexandra Palm (Archontophoenix Alexandrae) Tall slender and a very clean palm, often planted in clusters they create a beautiful back drop or screen for privacy, also look great as an individual.

Wine Palm (Butia Capitata) The wine palm is very adaptable as it will tolerate frost and snow, it is a broad palm with blue to green foliage.

Cabbage Palm (Livistona Australis) Quick growing native australian palm, trunk grows to 40cm thick, tall palm with a 2.4m span.

Cascade Palm (Chamaedorea Atrovirens) The cascade is an ideal indoor fernery type palm, shade lover with lush deep green foliage, grows to about 1.5 metres.

European Fan Palm (Chamaerops Humilis) The European fan palm tolerates everything including cold wind and frost, but does prefer dryer areas of the garden. In most circumstances grows to about 2m high and wide.

Cliff Date Palm (Phoenix Rupicola) A bushy fast growing palm with a harsh prickle it is commonly used for security and privacy in blobking areas 3 - 4 metres high and wide.
